The Fight Within (Gospel Life Series: Episode 7 of 16)
Why do I keep doing the very thing I hate?
Romans 7 pulls back the curtain on the struggle every believer knows but few want to admit. The Law is good, holy, and righteous — but it cannot rescue us. Instead, it exposes what is already inside us. The commandment shines a light on sin, and suddenly the battle becomes painfully clear. You want to obey God… yet another force pulls in the opposite direction. This isn’t just a behavior problem — it’s a deeper war within the human heart.
Paul describes it honestly: The good I want to do, I do not do. The evil I do not want to do, this I keep on doing. The Law can diagnose the disease, but it cannot cure it. Rules reveal the problem, but they cannot change the heart. The struggle of Romans 7 shows us something vital: the answer is not trying harder — the answer is deliverance.
“Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 7:24–25
The Law reveals the problem. Jesus provides the rescue.
This week in our verse-by-verse journey through Romans, we explore the tension, the struggle, and the hope that points us toward the incredible freedom waiting in Romans 8. ✝️⛰️
